oh my God! this band totally fucking rocks! Check out Miss Alissa and Stuck in the Metal (cover of Stuck in the Middle) and everything on the Peace, Love and Death Metal Album.
I'm ready to run half way across the world to catch one of thier live shows right now.
I've hit the music lottery this week and it's only Wednesday!
Yesterday I fell in love with The Village Green..and now, today, I'm whore-ing out with Eagles of Death Metal.
I am Music Slut this week and I totally love it!
EODM ROCK!
(Hey M- When can we go to London or Berlin or Barcelona to catch them play? Ask Matty! ...I think i'm only halfway joking and maybe i'm semi serious..wink wink..maybe if we have enough money left over from NY and Gomez.....)
Chris was over tonight and he just left. He's moving to Seattle on Monday. WAM. BAM. He's got about a month worth of interviews and checks to go through before he's officially hired.
This is part of the fallout from my relationship with Bengt. Bengt, Zoe and I were moving to WA this July and my family had started making plans around it...including, Zoe's father, Chris, getting a job in Seattle so that he could continue to see and be close to Zoe. Unfortunately, the job is too good for him to pass up and he really needs to take it, even though Zoe and I are no longer moving up there in July. I could tell he was really upset about the whole thing..he's worried about how Zoe will be effected with his sudden absense on top of Bengt's dissapearing act.
I was really positive and hopeful to him and told him not to worry about Zoe, that she'd be fine and that this is a really great opportunity for him. I told him the best thing he could do for Zoe was to get his self together.
But i am worried about Zoe.................as fucked up as he can be....she still adores him and counts on him just being around.....fuck.
I feel like this is all my fault. it's not...it's bengt's fault. My daughter not only loses bengt (who was practically like a stepfather to her) but now loses her father as well.
fucking men. fucked up in the head men. fucking men that lie. fucking men that change thier minds like that. fucking men that have mental problems. fucking men that act like selfish little boys. fucking men that think they can just go through life being cruel and mean to people without consequences. fucking men that can turn off thier hearts like a switch. fucking men that can talk themself into anything. fucking men that can adopt a new life within a week. fucking men that can invent whatever reality they want to believe they are living in. fucking men that can turn off all feelings of remorse, guilt, or conscience. fucking men that act like psychopaths. fucking men with borderline personality disorder. fucking men that run away from responsibility. fucking men that say you are thier best friend while they decide to date other women. fucking men that screw over my daughters life. fucking men.
I've listened to The VillageGreen album, Feeling the Fall, 5 times today so far. It's my new favorite. Chris gave me two new bands to check out; Eagles of Death Metal and Towers of London.
A friend of mine told me to list Bengt in the WWW.DONTDATEHIM.COM directory of bad men...but i'm sure he'll stick with his ultra round bitchface nudist man stealer girlfriend for a while- he's not strong enough to be alone. The website is pretty funny...i guess there are a few of them...it reminds of another joke that a friend and i were making about leaving notes on the stalls of the women's bathrooms at work that say "beware of bengt", or worse yet, share horribly personal details...unfortunately, the risk to my own livelyhood prevents me from doing this...at least the work bathroom part anyway...
I spent some time yesterday morning checking out new music. I find this to be one of the most relaxing and satisfying of hobbies...if i had a hobby, i guess i would have to say it is that....finding new music that i like.
Great new finds, include: The Village Green, The Black Angels, and The Blow; oh and We are Scientists.
I still need to check out TV on the Radio, Secret Machines and Mojave 3...haven't listened to them yet to see if i like them. Also, Meg made me a mixed tape of Coachella bands that i am excited to get to listen to.
Here's what I'm listening to:
CSS- Music is my Hot, Hot Sex
The Blow- Hey Boy
Margo and the Nuclear so and so's-Jes bringing the drugs
Loveless- Darling would you
The Coral Sea- Descend
Bears-How to Live
Clear Static-Make up Sex
The Village Green- When Creepers creep in
Say Hi to Your Mom- Sweet Sweet Heartkiller
We all went out to dinner last night to celebrate Zoe's birthday and it was a lot of fun. That was Birthday event #3..and there is still one to go:
#1- Party at school last friday, brought in cookies
#2- Actual birthday with mom in Santa Barbara and then brownie cake, candles, b-day song with mom/dad that night
#3- Family birthday dinner with grandparents and mom/dad at Zoe's choice of restaurant
#4- Actual Birthday party this saturday night with all her friends
Damn.....that's a lot of stuff..but you only turn 10 once!
Work is exploding again and I'm super de duper busy and the pressure is on this week. I have a huge project to present on Thursday to my entire team who are flying down from Redmond...mind you, i haven't even started this and i have to do a damn Time Tube in Visio...this can be a pain in the ass sometimes. we do a lot of time tubes in my org... I also have my career discussion w/ boss tomorrow..you know the one where i'm supposed to figure out if i'm moving or staying or what?!!! Will dream up the answer tonight i guess.
i'm really loving The Village Green; it was a great find.
And now the RANT SECTION OF THE BLOG
anyway..i actually hate when people talk about their hobbies. As if they have to list all this crap to make themselves sound more interesting than they are. They list and state thier hobbies like a resume..as if i am only to find another person interesting by these extra curricular obsessions. I don't need to be around like minded hobby enthusiasts to like another person or be friends with them... I always end up feeling like a loser because i am not obsessed with one particular thing...why do i have to have a damn hobby? can't i just be busy with being a single mom, working full time at a stressful job, keeping up with friends and traveling? when do people have time to perform and keep up with all these hobbies? because i seem to be really busy all the time....okay, okay, all this talk of hobbies is now pressuring me to come up with a half ass list of shit that i do or say that i do....what is the difference between a hobby and an interest anyway? i have more interests than hobbies.
wanna be hobby list: shopping, sleeping in, learning to take pictures, hanging with friends at a bar or cafe, traveling when i can, listening and finding new music...i used to also write incessantly in my journal, play cards (uno, rummy, poker), make large collages, have much more sex and write more correspondence, but i seem to blog more often than any of that is happening lately....
hmmmm.note to self- less blogging might equal more sex.
I used to like Weebles when i was a wee little lass. they wobbled. they rocked. they teetered. they tottered. But by God as my witness; they didn't fall down. They tried to remarket them to my daughters generation (as they did with almost all of the toys from my generation- My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Weebles, Cabbage Patch Dolls, ect) but they weren't as cool. They tried to update them and they just lost thier coolness factor. I had the Weeble Circus when i was a kid. ...excuse me while i take a moment to simmer with my weeble memory.
I am happy this morning. Zoe will be 10 years old in 2 days, on January 28th and I'm really excited and happy it. I can't believe that I have a 10 year old Daughter???!!!! When did this happen? She is the coolest kid i know and I love being her mom.
Weebles Wobble, but they don't fall down

From Billboard Magazine:
Akon and Lady Sovereign have been tapped as the opening acts for Gwen Stefani's Sweet Escape tour, which kicks off April 21 in Phoenix and wraps with a June 22-23 stand in Irvine, Calif. Tickets go on sale Feb. 10.
Okay- i really must go to this too; Lady Lovereign, one of my new favorite bands is opening. Add it to the pile! I need to make up for the serious lack of live music in my life over the past year. I guess it is fitting though...Live equals Real and Truthful and looking back- it doesn't seem like i had much of that at all last year.
hmm. sarcastic thursday begins....
The Fun Update
okay, so i've been skirting around my plans for a week or so now and they are finally solidified so I thought I'd finally post about them;
January
Santa Barbara
This coming weekend I am taking Zoe to Santa Barbara for her birthday weekend. We (zoe, puppy and me) will stay in a fancy hotel in Santa Barbara and visit the beach and ocean. The main reason for the trip is to visit Mission Santa Ines in Solvang for Zoe's school project. We are going to walk around and take pictures to help her get a better feel for the physical structure, the grounds, and overall mission life.
Zoe's Birthday
hmmm; room service at the hotel in santa barbara followed by the beach and then a 4 hour drive back home. We'll likely do a family dinner and celebration a couple days later. Her big party with her friends isn't until the 3rd of February and that should be pretty crazy.
February
She Wants Revenge
We are off to see She Wants Revenge in San Francisco on the 10th; I've missed them a couple of times over the past year and I'm so happy to finally get to see them. I'm not sure if we're staying in the city that night or not; but either way it will be super fab.
Gomez
Petaluma adventure begins on my birthday weekend and I'm taking some time off from work as well. We are going up early in the day to tool around the area, shop, meet up with some people, ect. We are to see Gomez that night at some club and then we're staying the night in Petaluma. fun. fun. fun.
March
New York and Gomez
We are headed to NY! Hooray! I am so excited about this trip. March 8th through the 12th, we will be in glorious Manhattan at the fabulous W hotel seeing Gomez 2 nights at a club right down the street. We have plans to visit Chelsea and the Food Network area (where its filmed or something) and go to the Museum of Modern Art. I'm going to resist on the shopping this time around and go for sightseeing and or visiting different parts of the city. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather is nice and we meet nice fun people.
April
Coachella
Tickets go on sale tomorrow and we are buying the 3 day passes. The hotel is already booked and a bunch of us will be crashing there. I've been wanting to attend Coachella for years and have always found an excuse not to...finally, finally I am going. The line up is huge this year and I'm loving all the minor bands versus the headliners. I am very excited about this trip in April.
Do i dare to say i'm a little happy-ish? I'm afraid i might jinx myself to admit a little glimpse of optimism and giddyness. I am happy to be getting on with life. I have the urge to travel and these little adventures will satisfy me until I can plan my next big trip. I'd like to take Zoe somewhere this summer. I was talking to my mom and she suggested Williamsburg, VA since Zoe will start to learn about American History next year in 5th grade. We could do VA and Washington DC...wouldn't that be cool for her? and while we are out there, we might as well think about hitting NYC and Boston too? Easy Rider American Adventure.
on a down note..i went into the office today and saw him. Everybody feels compelled to tell me gossip about my ex and the bitchface; i think i am done hearing about it. i just dont want to hear about it anymore. i am done. if you must tell me something..tell me something that will make me smirk vs. feeling like i want to throw up. i haven't spoken to or seen him in several weeks and seeing him today was ___________(fill in the blank). But alas, my life must go on.
What do the following bands have in common?
- Sonic Youth
- Regina Spektor
- Peaches
- Bjork
- Arcade Fire
- Decemberists
- Black Keys
- New Pornographers
- LCD Soundsystem
- Damien Rice
- Artic Monkeys
- Jesus and Marychain
- Gomez
- Ben Kweller
- She Wants Revenge
And the Answer is: I am going to go and see each and every one of these bands this year and it's almost all booked and set. I am really happy about the future right now. it's like a big happiness party is happening each month for me.
Songs from yesterday's Santa Cruz trip;
Secret Lovers by Atlantic Starr (thank you Wierdo!)..you know that t-mobil commercial..it makes me laugh (In Catagory of annoying songs that get stuck in your head for-Ever!)
Whitesnake doing Here we go again (In Catagory of annoying songs that get stuck in your head for-Ever!)
duran duran doing save a prayer
Peter Gabriel doing in your eyes (you know the john cusack song from say anything)
a little bad religion
a little elvis
a little dazed and confused soundtrack
and of course a little Gomez................
We had a great day! A really fun filled day.
Shopping, beach, music, sunsets, dinner, food, friends, fun, puppy.
Meghan showed me two fantastic stores: papervision and bunny's. i love them both. I went crazy at bunny's and bought 3 new tops and and a new yummy red purse. oh yeah, and earrings too. I should probably be saving my money for NY, but this time, for this NY trip I am to try to do more sightseeing and less shopping...last time I think Andrew and I spent at least 3 plus hours in Saks...(he is a true friend to shop with me like that...we went to each and every floor methodically! it was a dream come true and i eventually bought my favorite black LAMB sweater there)...but anyway.....Bunny's was too cool and I instantly fell in love with a million things, so it's really quite an accomplishment that I walked out of there with only 5 things. I was giddy afterwards from the giant spend of money and it was nice to have some instant gratification!
Buffy was great all day long and made friends with everyone who saw her..but especially a hairdresser from idaho falls, id (coincidently buffy's birthplace)....the woman was a little scary, but ahem...idaho falls; need i say more? She started practically making out with Buffy on the street corner and then told a story about how she lets her tiny dog drink out of her mouth when the dog is scared....ummm...yeah.....o-kay. bye bye.
Santa Cruz is always full of wiggers and of course they always like me....quickie mart guy tries to talk me up and make a connection...why does it always have to be the crazy drug addicts that fall for me?
Zoe had a great time and asked why we hadn't gone out with Matt and Meghan before?
My New Ipod Shuffle for the gym arrived today. It is indeed engraved with 'Whickity Whack. EMZ Muzak" (thanks to Weird Al for that one!) on the side of it. It is very small. smaller than a matchbook and not that much thicker than one. I started a new playlist for the Shuffle as it holds about 240 songs...more than enough for the gym and I want all of the music to be fast and upbeat. I am really pleased with the playlist; it is pretty badass if i don't say so myself. I'll try to find a way to list some of it here. Even without the full "library" in tact, I still have a pretty good collection of music. I was digging through my electronica today for the playlist and was happy to find a bunch of one offs that are all really good.
Plans are getting solidified for all of the upcoming activities from now through March. I've found a puppy sitter for the February events and for the big one in March.
I am really happy about this. Almost all of the hotels are booked and there are just one set of airplane tickets remaining to be purchased. Hooray for Us! The show tickets and backstage passes are being taken care of and I'm getting really excited as it gets closer to February and the begining of the fun. As zoe would say, " oh yeah! uh. huh! you know it, we're cool!". More detail on all of the upcoming events to come later...
Work is tough and as of today, I am behind. I need to really pull it together the next two days in order to meet my deadlines. I had plans to see a movie today with some friends, but wasn't feeling up to driving up to Mt.View so I stayed home and played with the puppy. She is getting so funny and into mischief..she spent an hour trying to pull my robe ties off into oblivion. I almost got brave enough to clip the hair under her eyes, as its growing so long and straight up into her eyes that i can hardly stand it...but then i looked into her sweet little eyes and chickened out. it can wait and i'm afraid she'll move suddenly and i'll hurt her.
Today I listened to:
-
Jet
-
The Faint
-
The Gwenmars
-
Die Mannequinn
-
Led Zeppelin
-
L'Trimm
-
MC5
-
Ministry
-
Pat Benetar
-
Ramones
-
Revolting Cocks
-
Rolling Stones
-
Singapore Sling
-
Siouxsie and the Banchees
-
Subways
-
Transplants
-
White Stripes
-
The Who
I am really enjoying Die Mannequinn but have only been able to find about 4 or 5 of their songs on the How to Kill EP and only the 'clean' version...If anybody can help me out that would be cool. Also, I downloaded the whole album for Lady Sovereign, which is really great..reminds me a lot of Peaches.
My feet are itching to travel again...I'm glad there are so many plans in my future.
i love finding new bands that rock. i love finding new music....whether it's someone telling me about a good new band or finding it myself.. It is truly one of my favorite things. Despite how sad and depressed i've been since the break-up, I have at least been saved by new music.
This week my finds include; Dirty Pretty Things, Babyshambles and Jude. I love the song Deadwood by Dirty Pretty Things, but the entire album, Waterloo to Anywhere is very good. From Babyshambles, I like the song, The Blinding and the whole album with the same name is turning out to be really great. Jude is also a new discovery. I had known about the song, Save Me, from thier latest album, but I actually like thier older stuff a lot better and am enjoying the albums, No One is Really Beautiful and 430 N. Harper Avenue. I also am digging on the Love Me Hate Me song by Lady Soverign; it is so poppy and great..i can't see how anyone could not like it. it's like Cherry Flavored Pop Rocks...yummy.
Also- Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BMRC) just released 3 tracks on the Howl Sessions, Vol.2 album; Grind my bones, Mercy and Wishing Well. They are amazing and if you loved Howl, you definately need to check out these previously unreleased tracks.
Finding new music is good for me and necessary since my ex boyfriend still has all of our music collection. I need to buy a new harddrive for him to copy everything onto for me...and even the stuff i do have right now, it all just reminds me of him and is hard to listen to. Music brings up so many memories for me..a place in time...i hear a song and am transferred back to that place in my life...and even to be transferred back to the good places, ends up feeling bittersweet; like it is only a reminder of what i no longer have in my life. I just heard Damone doing On My Mind and I remember B singing it to me last year.. tear tear. sob sob.
